Summary

  • FNQ Crochet for Cancer group has donated handmade blankets to TI Hospital
  • The group has delivered blankets to hospitals across the Far North after forming 11 years ago
  • The blankets will be given to TI patients

A surprise visitor to Thursday Island hospital has warmed the hearts of both staff and patients.

Anna Carrick, the founder of the FNQ Crochet for Cancer group, arrived at the hospital late last month with a suitcase filled with handmade blankets.

Nurse Anna Bin-Doraho said the donations had thrilled staff and they had already given some to patients.

"It's just a little reminder that there's someone who cares," she said.

Ms Carrick said the group had been making blankets together for more than 10 years. She said they had dropped off donations across the Far North - from Tully to Kowanyama, and now Thursday Island.

"Our aim is to bring some warmth and colour into a time in people's lives when it can seem dark and cold," she said.

"Letting patients know that we care too, has a positive impact not only bringing them joy but joy to us as well."

Thank you so much to Anna and her team of kind crocheters!
