An experienced clinician looking to fill a career-long dream of working in a remote area is one of three new additions to the Bamaga nursing team.
Sara White moved to Australia from the UK almost 30 years ago and raising a family kept her closer to suburbia, but nursing in the “outback” had always been the goal when she moved over, and now the time has come.
“I saw the advertisement (for Bamaga) and instantly knew that was where I wanted to go and that was my job,” the Clinical Nurse Consultant said.
“I chose it as an adventure, the next chapter of my life.”
Joining her in the Northern Peninsula Area’s health hub will be RN Keira Casey who is making the move from Darwin after falling in love with the area while spending time as a graduate nurse at Innisfail Hospital and Lotus Glen Correctional Centre.
“I wanted to get out of the city,” she said.
Western Australia RN Jessica Shorter makes up the trio and will be joined in Bamaga by her teacher partner who has taken a position at the local school.
Ms Shorter said remote nursing had never been on her radar until the couple spent a few months traveling around Australia.
“I’d never really explored it as a possibility,” she said.
The three new starters underwent orientation in Cairns earlier this month before taking up their new positions.
